LOFOTEN WOOL
Locally crafted wool textiles made from free-grazing sheep in the landscapes of Lofoten.
Natural wool craftsmanship shaped by Lofoten’s land and traditions
Lofoten Wool was founded by textile craftswoman Ragnhild Lie, who set out to reconnect Norway’s wool traditions with the land they came from. When she discovered that much of Norway’s own wool was being exported while local knitters worked with imported yarn, she chose to reverse the pattern. On her small farm in Lofoten, she created a workshop centered on native sheep breeds, local fibers and enduring craft techniques. The first Old Norse Sheep arrived in 2013, and Lofoten Wool was launched the following year.
Today, the company produces luxurious yarn, hand-knitted garments and woven textiles made from wool sourced on the islands. Natural sheep colors and hand-dyed shades reflect the landscape, while small-scale production ensures quality and care in every piece. Sustainability guides every step - from fiber selection to finished product - offering visitors a true connection to Lofoten’s land, culture and craft heritage.
